Food Review: Chicken Champ @ Bussorah

me and ukhti had decided that after our exam last saturday, we would have our lunch at the kedai makan 2 doors down that is Chicken Champ by Nuradee Bros.

so on the day itself, i was looking forward to the lunch rather than the exam bwahahahaha... but anyhow, we reached about 1.15pm. pretty empty. and well, i think we know why. Arab Street gets busier when the day gets darker hehehehe...!!!

we took our seats. promptly attended to by a lady staff. 1st thing we asked whether they accept NETs as a payment mode. no NETs, it's all cash. oh ok... so we got down to ordering. i was pondering over fish n chips, black pepper chicken chop or their submarine sandwiches (the ones they say ala2 subway). but then i settled for fish n chips. coz i tot sandwiches won't fill up my tank hehehehe...!! and i've always love fish more than any other meat.

ukhti ordered the 2-piece chicken meal. and we ordered a side-dish - onion ring.

done with the orders, i walked over to Raffles Hospital to withdraw money. coz we have no cash on hand and pity Ukhti, coz she was having a flu. on my way there, Ukhti called to say fish n chips not available at the moment. aik, tadik aku order tak cakap apa2 pun. so settled for the next big thing, black pepper chicken chop.

withdrew money and walked back. still our food hasnt arrived. the drinks were on the table, and shortly after, the onion rings.

ONION RINGS

Onion Rings were good. In fact a little better than Burger King (BK is the only one which sells them, right?). And I dont remember tasting an inch of oil in it. Or maybe I was very hungry hahahaha...!! The only little downside, they dont have the small pirings to put the chili sauce in. But takde hal lah, we just poured chilli sauce over the onion rings itself.

Both the Black Pepper Chicken Chop and the 2-piece Chicken Meal came a while later.

You know, one thing I quite don't fancy about certain Chicken Chop is how liat the chicken is. And it will take me years to chow-down one bite. Al-maklum, gigi kan sensitif mwahahahaha...!! As I stared at the dollops of sauce on the chicken, I was thinking, "Oh dear, this is going to get really messy if I end up using my hands."

I WAS WRONG. The chicken was so soft that it was so easy to cut using plastic cutleries. And taste-wise, I think I would rate it one of the best chicken meals I've ever had. The sauce, although not pure black pepper, it has mayonnaise in it too, is of the right blend of taste. Not too spicy, not too muak. Coleslaw/vege on the side was also good. The potato wedges wins it for me too. Like I said, you can't taste the oil.

Ukhti's 2-piece Chicken meal - according to her, was quite normal. Nothing to go va-va-voom about. But still, nice.

Restaurant Atmosphere
There are seats inside and outside . I am not sure if they do al-fresco during dinner-time, you know tables and chairs on the walkways.

It is airconditioned, but it was scorching hot on the day we sat down for lunch, we didnt really feel the aircon. But ventilation was good.

From where we were sitting, we can see the staff working about in the kitchen. So i think they have this open-kitchen kinda concept.

In short, I think I'm going for more. I wanna try their submarine sandwiches. If it's as good as Subway's, then I can stop hopping for Subway to be Halal. Hahahaha...!! And also I heard their Spring Chicken is good too!

So if you want to eat in a very lazy atmosphere and at a very affordable price, hop down to Chicken Champ. Easy to find lah. Two doors after Wardah Bookstore, in front of Masjid Sultan.  (Map below)

And on weekend nights, the Nuradee Bros will serenade you with their songs. Nice hor!

Ilal liqaa...!!
